So today I found a hidden nest near my old barn w/ 2 eggs in it

While I was searching around on my 'Easter egg hunt' lol! Two of my squatting girls(born this past spring) decided to lay their first eggs! Inside a nesting barrel in their pen! What good girls. Sadly one of the eggs was a bit on the thinner side & I accidentally crushed it in my pocket.... soo it was fertile right because the bulls eye is large?? Can't believe my standard girls are kissing the ground to give my BTWJapanese roosters a ride!
One time I caught 2 in the act..... at first it looked like my lil roo was having a seizure... then I noticed he wasn't on the ground...rather on top of a RIR 1 1/2yr old hen

- Fertile? Sure looks like it.
- In your pocket?!?!?! I am NOT doing that! My daughter put together a small wicker basket with a towel but we haven't needed it yet. I can carry one in each hand

- My Ancona that seems to be the most consistent since she started a week ago has ALWAYS put them in nest box until yesterday. She left it just inside the coop door about 3 PM, half an hour after her "sister" laid one in the nest box. Hearing the egg song twice in a half hour! Priceless!!

Now have an Australorp, a Cubalaya and an E.E. squatting.

Haha!! in my pocket?? Never again!!! I wasn't expecting anymore eggs when I went out to hang with them again. Oh man the egg song.... Big red my original RIR loves to sing that on & off all day long lol I always go running around looking for eggs. I swear she does it for the entertainment

I'm sure I look hilarious trotting around & hopping thru the bushes!!!!

First egg today, from my BR. So excited, she made a nest under a large brush pile. Will she go to that spot every time to lay an egg? I am pretty new at this, any answers are greatly appreciated.

Congrats! Will she lay there all the time??? Really depends on the bird. I have 3 that go in the coop each time & 2 that lay in a nesting barrel. Then my other laying lady likes to lay out & about. She will lay in the same spot each day till I come across the nest, then she goes to a completely different spot & so far has not doubled back on any spot yet. Frustrating yet fun at the same time tho. It's like an Easter Egg hunt everyday! I am ordering some nice false eggs to replace the ones I take though - As fun as hunting for eggs is -- I don't think I'll want to do it all the time when it starts to get really cold and snowy!!!!!
