My first chicken egg arrived Tuesday evening. It is the small speckled egg. The one on the bottom is a store bought large egg, the one on the left is from my buff orpington duck. My girls are EE born on July 11th, they are 19 weeks old.

Do the eggs get bigger as they get older?

Congrats!

I sure hope so, the biggest I've gotten so far would likely be "Small" on the official egg grading scale.

Expecting our first E.E. egg any day now. One of them started squatting last week. That would put her at 24 - 25 weeks. You did well to get an egg at 19 weeks.

We found a 'hidden nest' in the hen pen and it had a 'marble' sized egg in it? Is this normal? First layed? PLZ HELP ME!

-Buff&Splash

I had one of those, little blue nugget of an egg. It's like a 1st time egg hiccup haha there was like a teaspoon of albumen!!! I have not had one of such a small size, or roundness, again.

Got my first egg yesterday from my flock of 4 pullets. I wasn't home, so I didn't get to hear the egg song, but I'm pretty sure it came from my Columbian Wyandotte, Roxy, because she insisted on sitting in the nesting box by herself for about an hour yesterday. Funny thing was after all that, she layed the egg ont he coop floor instead!

My barred rock and EE are squatting and talkative, so I think they'll also lay soon. My black orphington isn't squatting yet, so I assume she's a bit behind the others.

Her egg is the tiny brown one...next to a large white one from the store for size comparison. And, a picture of the proud hen (I think!)

First Cubalaya egg:

The one on the far right is a store egg. The two on the bottom and either side of the Cubalaya egg are Ancona. The one on the right is the first Large the girls have laid. Can't say the verdict is in since not all the birds are laying yet, but the 2 Anconas started 2 weeks ago and have been really productive this week. 10 eggs between them the last 7 days.

You can get a pretty good idea who laid it by picking them up and checking the vent area. Layers will have about a 3 or 4 finger space between the hips & the vent will be much more 'relaxed' than one who has not started laying yet. :) That's how I had to do it with a few of mine
Such a pretty egg!

Went out just now to let the girls out (yeah, I know, late!) and found another Cubalaya egg and:

Andromeda's FIRST egg. Not only first egg but XL at that!

Andddd, it is a double yolker!!

Store on the left. Andromeda's beautiful blue-green XL, 2 Cubalaya and 2 Ancona

I'm planning to check..but Roxy has a very fuzzy butt...so it may be hard to tell! heehee

I'm SO eggcited!!! These are the first eggs we've gotten since we bought the chickens the middle of October. Got the bottom two eggs last night. I think the brown is from my Barred Rock, the cream is from my BBR Phoenix game, and this morning my Mutt laid the green egg (she is my profile pic). The white egg is from the grocery store and is a large egg. Just waiting on my RIR to start laying and I think it will be a while before my Blue Jersey Giant lays, she still looks very young.
