On the left is my two Cochin eggs-(she's not a new layer)-and on the right is my RIR's first two eggs...she laid yesterday for the first time and then again today...I wanted to make sure it was hers before announcing it.

How old were you cochins when they started laying . DH bought 10 cochrins and has no idea how old they are . BUT they sure look old enough to be laying , esp. she they are breeding with the rooster . ALSO , do you have pictures of your cochrins ?

My busy girl laid these in a 24 hour period

Cause I checked in the mid morning one day - nothing, then early afternoon the next day- two! She finally came through for me! I would have been happy with one. My sweet Buff Orp laid an extra for her dearly departed sister we had to kill due to mareks a couple weeks ago.

I haven't owned my Cochin more than 2 months or so. We got her from someone else. She came with her own babies that are now living on a farm. She lays 2 or 3 times a week...I don't even know her age thats why prior to the last two eggs I thought she had stopped laying for nearly 2 wks she had anything.

Somebody at my place is a new layer, and is laying MAUVE eggs!

OK, not really--they're Buff Orpington eggs with some kind of calcium deposit or something overlaid on the shell. But don't they look pretty and pink?

Yeah! We got to do the happy dance!

We finally got an egg from one of our fifteen, 22-week-old Buff Orpingtons. We came home Sunday, the day after our wedding, to find it sitting in a nest box. It was a wonderful gift.

Congrats Nemo on both the egg and the wedding!!! Nice gift indeed! I've got eight 21 week old birds and I am still waiting... Glad to know it finally happens!

I've been meaning to post since last week-- we got our first eggs!!! Looks like just one of the Barred rock/EE mix hens so far-- but here they are-- we found the first 2 together on the floor.

I had "the talk" ( as hubby dubbed it) with the girls, put some hay in the nest boxes and told them, for their laying comfort, they should lay eggs in the nests. Sure enough-- not another on the floor

We've had 1 egg in one of the nests each day thereafter

Edited to add: These hens are only about 19 weeks old.
