See my post----- I went into the barn and told the hens where to lay-- and my girl that's laying hasn't laid outside the nest since

( I'm sure my talk had nothing to do with it, and more to do with me finally putting some hay in the boxes-- but it makes me feel good anyhow! )
So-- give them a pep talk and show them where to go

So it was a happy day for me yesterday WE GOT OUR FIRST EGG !!!!!

I am pretty sure it's from our easter egger and as I type this my 4 year old son just called and said he found a brown egg this morning ....

Here are the pictures of my first two double-yolk eggs. They both look bigger compared to other eggs. I think they are from the black sex-link hen.

This was THE hugest egg I have ever seen! And it was the first! My poor chickie was probably walking crooked that whole day! lol. I saved the egg by "blowing" out the yolk, it had to be a double yoker, again THE hugest egg! I think it was the Golden Comet, her name is Dolly Parton. She was exactly 16 weeks and 1 day old.

I'm saving all our huge eggs too and making a basket of them to put on the table as a center-piece. I put a quarter-sized hole on one side, get the egg out (usually still in tact) wash the egg shell. Then I fill it with salt and seal the hole with candle wax. That makes the eggs feel just like they still had the egg in them. They make the prettiest basket of eggs. And they won't rot!! We have one Golden Comet that seems to be laying all our huge eggs. I've only gotten one other egg that was a double yolker from one other hen. (Our Buff Orp) All the rest of our huge eggs have been from that one GC. She lays a huge egg almost every day and they are the prettiest dark brown eggs! She's worth her weight in gold!!! GC's rock!!!

In that second picture, with the two hens, is that red colored one a Red Star? We have some that we call Red Stars and they look exactly like thta. But no one seems to know about red stars....are they even a breed???

OT but here goes:
I think red stars are the same as the cinnamon queens, or golden comets, and a bunch of other names, they are the RED sex link chickens....a red mix pullet though....they all look like that, great egg layers and super disposition.
Here is the definition from My Pet Chicken:
Stars are "sex link" chickens, meaning they're bred specifically so that males and females are different colors when they hatch. Females are egg-laying machines that continue to lay well in the heat and cold, when many others slow down. The males are said to be good "fryers". Stars are not recognized by the American Poultry Association and are just one of many hybrid sex-link crosses available on the market today
Hope that helps, Tina/tfpets

Since this one, I have gotten 2 more, each a little bigger, they have come from my white leghorn. This morning, I found a 'fart' egg from one of my sexlink.
