This was the most exciting thing to ever happen to me. I went out there and checked the eggs like I do everyday just incase they wanted to lay eggs. To my surprise one of my girls did! I was yelling LOOK! LOOK! LOOK! LOOK! I'm pretty sure my neighbors thought I was crazy. Now I have so many questions now that one of girls is laying. Time to search BYC;)

We've been letting our chickens free range because we don't have many predators, but now they haven't even taken a second glance at the nest boxes. Big Mama laid her eggs in the flower garden in the yard. :/ I'd prefer not to go on an easter egg hunt every morning. Is there a way to train them to lay in their boxes?

I just had to keep them in for several days until they got back into the habit and left the eggs in for a few days..it worked for me. Good luck!

Finally this morning we were blessed with our first eggs. After 3 months of building, feeding, changing things up, reading posts for information, and arguing over spending too much money...here they are, 2 small but beautiful brown eggs. What a surprise it was to see them as soon I let them out this morning. They missed the nest boxes though so I placed golf balls in all the nest areas, so I hope all those who suggest it are right. Will our girls expect us to name their chicks "Nike" as that is printed on the balls.

I don't know which of these two girls delivered the goods or did each one pop out an egg. Would or could a hen pop out 2 eggs on their first lay? Could I have moved the eggs to a nest and expect one of the hens to brood over them? Any way they are in the frige because thats why we started this adventure and we're not set up for hatching....yet. Any ideas would be great.

My girls do the same. I keep them locked up until I get the eggs for the day then let them out. It never fails that if I don't wait I won't find the eggs I have several I am sure I will find due to smell

I found a pink egg in a sheds window box...from a hen loooong since sold, ...it was in tact so of course I *had* to crack it open - NEVER will again Bahahhaa

Our 5 hen flock just hit 19 weeks old last Wednesday. It must have been all my threats to them that the BBQ was ready for them if someone didn't start producing! Reba, our RIR pulled it off! Last Monday, she left us a beauty and as of today, we've received 3 more.

First egg. It's the little one next to the dummy egg.
