First egg from my dominiques. No shell really. Oyster shells should help. Feels like rubber. Chicks are still young. Just give them time i guess.

This is technically her second egg but the first one we cracked open. The larger egg on the right is a grocery store cage free Grade AA large brown egg. The smaller one on the left with the more orange yolk is Onyxia's second egg. It's so pretty. The yolk tasted pretty much the same but there was a big difference in the white. The white from Ony's egg had less of a rubbery texture and tasted better.

This "first egg" is actually the first egg from a certain hen that hasn't laid an egg for 10 months. She started laying pullet eggs last year (2012), in early November, and laid normal-looking eggs through last December, then she quit laying altogether until last Friday, October 4, 2013, when she laid a strange-looking egg. She laid the one in the middle:

She has since laid another skinny egg. Has anyone else had a hen lay such a strange egg, and, does anyone know why she took a 10-month vacation?

One of my two Black Star pullets just laid this beauty on the right. It's her very first egg —

It looks a lot like the Barred Rocks egg (on the left), so we'll see if the Black Stars' eggs will change their appearance as the birds mature. BTW, this pullet is 25 weeks and three days old.

We've got 9 chickens that are 19 1/2 weeks old. So far we've had 4 eggs in 5 days

. I'm thinking it's only one of the girls that's laying, but this morning two of the girls were squatting. Hmmmm. Can't wait to see if there are more eggs on the way

it's like reading a suspense novel, a real page turner!!!

The ones that are laying are Golden Buffs (also Golden Sex Link or Golden Comet). I have three of these then I also have three Buff Orpingtons and three Easter Eggers all the same age and none of which are showing any signs yet. My Golden Buffs are definitely the more affectionate ones as well

First silkie started laying this week! Of course we were out of town hunting. She waited, I know it! It's the cute little creamy one on top. :) Knew someone was practicing an egg song before we left...tricky little breed for sure.
