I have 3 eggs now, and am waiting for ?something? to crack one open.

I had the golf balls in the nests for a long time, but thought it was having the opposite effect, so I took them out. Think I will put them back in and see what happens!

I put the golf balls back in the nest box and a couple hours later I had an egg in there! Saturday my 2nd layer laid her first and she laid it in the same box! Yay!

Woohoo! There may just be something to the golf balls. I finally gave in and put one in one of my four nest boxes. A week later, in that very nest box, is where I got my first egg.

All i have ever had to do was supply the box, the hens go to them and do their thing, self educated, they don't lay on the ground unless it is by accident, which is seldom, i have 10 box's in the big house and 4 in the smaller one, today i gathered 30 eggs from the bottom row of 5 nests, none from the top, i also lined my box's with brown indoor/outdoor carpet, i will see tomorrow if the girls like this better than hay.

FINALLY !!! My oldest girls are 29 1/2 weeks old.
This is my first flock and I've eagerly been awaiting an egg. Well, Friday one of my Red Sex Links gave me my first egg. It weighed 2 oz and is perfect. Since then, she laid one more egg on Sunday and a third this morning.

I'm so excited to have them but at the same time they seem almost too precious to eat. I feel like they should be displayed! Is that weird???

I held onto our first ones for weeks. LOL No one was allowed to eat them because my dd was out of town and wanted to see them first.
