Here's one from the day she laid, she was freaking out and actually hurt herself so she was getting snuggles in the warm house.

She's exactly 6 months old today actually. She's laid 4 eggs in 6 days. I'm incredibly impressed because I didn't expect anything from her.

Wow, yours makes Chickity look like a little baby. That's very strange.

I have a very mild rope light on a timer that stays on in the run from 4pm to 9pm, oyster shell, a big, walk-in nesting box that I built. I'm sure you've got a similar set up. They didn't start laying until I lengthened the time the light was on? Maybe?

Ah. We don't add light, these are late summer chicks, we got them at the end of August, so ours are not quite as old. A little over 5 months. We do give them oyster shell and they have access to nesting boxes all over the place.
One of our Delawares of the same age has been laying for a week.
Not all of our Dark Cornish look like Esmerelda, she's the most mature as far as looks go. Some look like Chickity and some are even less mature looking. Can't wait for them to start laying, but I have to say, I just love the Dark Cornish chickens. They are just so fierce looking, but Esmerelda will fly up to sit on my shoulder and talk away. I really do love them!

Esmerelda is gorgeous, btw!  She looks like she's ready to take on anyone.  Oh my gosh, yes.  For looking the most like dinosaurs/dragons, they are so sweet.  I've noticed a lot of them have like multiple colors in their eyes, and their feathers are green/purple iridescent.  Cornishes are so cool looking.  Chickity is way too heavy to fly up onto my shoulder, she can only hop onto my knee when I sit, but she'll just plop her butt down and play with my phone.

She takes some weird selfies.

She's so cute! I've noticed that the dark Cornish are much heavier than the other girls of the same age. We have Delawares and Silver Laced Wyandottes that also love to fly up and sit on my shoulders, same age, but they are quite a bit lighter than the Dark Cornish. Those girls are STOUT! Lol! I love their feathers too, so beautiful.

My first laid at 27 weeks, but I have one that is 37 weeks that looks at me like she isn't even thinking about laying yet!!

Does "she" have a long tail, larger comb and crow at sunrise?

I really have no idea if all mine are laying yet or not, I am guessing not as the most eggs I have gotten is 24 for 33 hens in one day.

I think some of them think I keep them just because they are cute and not for their eggs.

I do not have a recent picture of her, but my disclaimer is that she is some kind of bantam australorp barnyard mix and I'm guessing that's why she is not laying yet. Her sister laid for the first time a couple weeks ago a cute little bantam egg, but as soon as the temps dropped below zero, no more banty eggs.

Waiting for spring!!!

This may sound kind of silly to some, but, I actually think the "egg song" is kind of cute. I have 5 girls that will be 6 months old the end of this month. I have Raven and Simone, both I was told are Marans but they lay olive green eggs (one is lighter than the other), I have Astro, looks like a bantam (we were told by a feed store employee she was a rooster, thus the name) and who was somehow left behind outside our bedroom window where she hatched and we found her. She lays a light peach egg. There is Penny who is white with brown and gray feathers on her head. We bought her from the feed store to keep Astro company. I was told she is Americauna. She is probably the one laying light bluish eggs. And then there is Marsha who looks a lot like Astro, but I got her from the same lady I got Raven and Simone from. The lady took her little egg in and put it on a heating pad. Marsha hatched inside a little cat carrier. She is the one that I am not sure is laying eggs yet.

I like the egg song, but I find the purring cuter, I find the "growl" amusing and it brightens my day. I have a couple birds that "growl" when I lock them up at night. I pet them just to show them I still love them, even if they are trying to be tough horses rear ends.....
