Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop my hen from going broody on me? This is the second time this season she has done this and of course quits laying eggs. Had I not found her as a baby she would have been one of the neighborhood chickens that think they belong to me, though they don't really. Anyway, any suggestions are most welcome.

Got our first egg today. 16 1/2 weeks! It was our Marans. Not very dark and pretty small but we'll give her some time.

give her 2-3 eggs and wait for her to quit! in case she does not you might have 2-3 chicks!

So exciting! We went to check the girls last night and one of our black sexlinks laid her first egg right in front of us! She is 20 weeks. Now we are waiting for the other 8 to start laying.

chickengr, none of the eggs my girls lay are fertilized since we don't have a rooster in with them. There are 5 hens. They do not free range because there are too many neighborhood chickens and roosters running around, including 5-6 hens adult and 2 adult roosters. This doesn't include the 12 young ones that run around my backyard, the two that had a separate run and house of their own (1 being a roo), or the two 7 weeks old chicks I have in the house, so I don't want to give her fertilized eggs. I will try just giving her fake eggs. Had I not rescued the broody hen she too would be running around the backyard with the others. Thanks for the suggestion though.

At 1.01 oz I'm not sure it even qualifies as a PeeWee size.
