I have been MIA for a few months......just been busy....I have been lurking though. Anyway, my girls laid their first egg today. I don't have the slightest clue who laid it.....they're all RIRs and we have 13 hens, so who knows. Hope there will be more soon.
The picture should be clickable.
Our barred rock laid her first egg today! (That's her with the spouse. We take turnsI got to be in our EE's First Egg photo.) She was hatched on 9/25/08, so she's just shy of 23 weeks. Her first squat was on Feb. 28, so I knew she was thinking about it. This one weighed just over 1 ounce, unlike my EE, whose eggs have been an even 2 ounces since the very first (total overachiever!).
It's about a medium I'd say, maybe bordering on large. We have a pair of red stars, both of which started squatting last weekend, and now they've taken the big step ... we're so proud
Wooo! The girls are 28 weeks and I've been waiting for about a month now.
(pardon my gross hair, obvious by the fog, it's really humid today)
I think the eggs came from the GLW ans standard cochin. We also have 2 EEs, but everyone else says they are late bloomers AND I really want a green and a blue from those two!
If you can see, the one on the left has white speckles, any idea which laid the speckled?
Hello all, I've been visiting since June of '08 which is when we got our first hens (White Leghorns mixed w/Buff something), we just wanted eggs and a pedigree wasn't necessary. They were already laying. We later aquired (6) Black Australorps ( Yaaaah! finally a pedigree). They were only 15 weeks so we had to wait a while for their first (which I'm sorry to say we didn't photograph). We've had them for about (6) months now. The other day we were presented with not a first egg but a GIANT egg. We were just bursting to show someone and I could think of no better community to show than BYC. I'm going to try my hand at uploading pics. I hope they make it.
