Thanks, I am so happy to have a basket full of colorful eggs. I was counting down the days. The problem is that I really really don't want to crack them open

Yes, as time goes on, they lay bigger eggs but less frequently.

We got our first eggs from our first chickens today!
It seems like it took FOREVER for them to show!
Now to figure out who is laying what ... hehehehe

Our last hen to lay, Barbie, the EE, laid her very first egg on Valentine's Day

at 27 weeks!

Here she is and her eggs are a beautiful robin's egg blue, while our other EE hen, Slagathor lays olive green eggs...

We don't know who (of our flock) layed them, but they are perfect!




So sad that we lost one of our beautiful girls to our dog the same day.

It is hard sometimes, but exciting too.

Finally getting a nice assortment, though my Easter Eggers are on strike. That one in the front is actually blue, not white.

I was NOT expecting our banties to lay until Spring, but my 9 year old daughter came flying into the house about 20 minutes ago screaming "THE CHICKEN LAID AN EGG!!!!".

Here it is:

The shell is pretty soft, but I just started them on oyster shell almost 2 weeks ago.

Wow: those are pretty! What kind lays the incredibly dark, reddish-brown ones? I don't think I've ever seen any like that!
