One of my La Fleche babies (alright, FINE, my HUSBAND'S La Fleche babies) laid her first egg today!!! I am so excited. He wanted these chickens so badly and I never thought I would get him some (failed hatch after failed hatch.....) and now they are old enough to lay!!!

There are 4 girls so I am not 100% sure who it was, but our precious little Erzsebet is the most mature looking so I am assuming it is hers. It is soooooooo beautiful!!! Would this be a true "deviled egg"?????

Yes, she came out of an egg from a regular box of Trader Joes store brand eggs. The only difference was it was labeled Fertile Eggs. They were supposed to be for eating, not hatching. My daughter wanted to hatch eggs and we don't have any good local sources since we are city folk. We got creative and it worked. Then my son turned it into a whole science project for school.

What a wonderful story your son will tell for the rest of his life about the chicken hatched from a store egg!

Now that's good parenting!!

Got our first baby's egg yesterday. It was tiny compared to the 2 RIR ones I get every day from my older gals. Oh yeah, the one that laid is a Red Star...I've got three more and two EEs due to also start any day. Also got some Kahki Campbell's due any day now.

Here's a couple of pics...

Think it's from one of the speckled sussex. It's so adorably tiny can't wait till tomorrow morning to find another one or two.

I finally got my first egg today @ 18 weeks and 1 day. These white leghorns really do lay the eggs I was looking for. Here it is with an extra large store bought on the left. There was a crack on one end because I didn't have enough padding, but tomorrow we'll see.
