How old is your Sussex X?? I am wondering when my little cross beaked one will lay. I am hoping by the end of the month she will have caught up. Her comb is finally starting to develop. The BCM we got looks like she is just a month or so out too, her comb and wattles are just starting to gain some color. The replacement for our white EE roo is only 12 weeks so we likely won't be seeing anything from her for several months.
I don't know her exact age but I was told that she should be a blue egg'er, but I would guess around 24 to 28 weeks????

Got my first 2 eggs today!!! Trying to figure out what hen layed first?!? I have 4 hens looks like there from the same hen!! Is it normal for them to lay 2 there very first time?

Hi all! I've already shared my first eggs from my beautiful rirs, red comets and ee's, recently though, I brought home three texas a&m quails that were surrendered to the humane society I work at. I wasn't expecting anything but to give them a good life for the rest of their life... Well imagine my surprise when I started to find their pretty little eggs! Here are the first few from my adorable little rescues!

How cool is that, Kourtnie? Beautiful eggs! This is probably a stupid question, but I gotta ask...do they taste the same as chicken eggs?

I haven't tried them yet but I will soon, wasn't sure till just a bit ago whether they're male or female (the other two that is) and how to go about telling if they were fertile or not. I've spoken to several folks that have tried them and they tell me they're little bundles of wonderfulness :)

Now my blue wheatan as given her 1st egg up and splash wheatan started laying just a few weeks ago! I gave away a dozen blue eggs and I thought the guy was gonna have a heartattack he was so excited lol more so than me. The kids LOVE finding a blue one in the coop...its like a surprise everytime lol I need green now Mwahahaha...and chocolate. Need some marans to lay some dark browns so I have a pretty egg basket lol

Off topic but may I ask a question? Quails can't be kept with or near chickens right?
