I put one in the nest and they politely fill it up. My chickens are so smart. If you believe that... You should see them walk in the house and put them in the fridge for me. I love them ;p lol

Pretty egg!! 2nd eggs are definitely just as exciting. Heck I got my 7th one today and it was still exciting to find. Seeing your PBR gives me hope that mine will be laying shortly. Her wattles look almost red and her comb seems to get bigger everyday. Here she is a few days ago. The PBR on the left! The one on the right I don't think will lay for at least a couple more weeks.

They look so CUTE! And very healthy! My chicken laid when she was 18 weeks old (totally took me off by surprise!) How old are they?

MrChicken mine are all 19 weeks and 3 days. My Australorp, you can see part of her on the very left of the pic is our first and only layer so far and she laid her first egg at 18 weeks 1 day. I was totally not expecting it and I think that is what made it even more special. But now it's like a waiting game every single day to see who is next! I really think it will be my PBR Twilight as she has the next biggest and brightest comb and wattles compared to my Australorp.

My two cuckoo marans are now 27 weeks old, and no eggs yet!

One of them looks like she's about ready with comb and wattles suddenly growing and getting redder. She even goes into the coop and stands and stares at the nest boxes, empty or while the BO and BR are in them laying eggs. In fact, this morning I couldn't see the wooden egg in the one nest box from my spy cam on my laptop. Hubby had to go out and dig it out of the straw in the nest. Neither of the two, who presently lay, did that yesterday when they were in there, so one of the marans had to have gone in there and poked around, maybe a dry run?

I really thought there would be a big chocolate brown egg today, but no............ (sigh). Well, maybe tomorrow.

I totally know how you feel! I went to put my chickens away after they were roaming my yard and i found a little egg sitting in there! Anyway make sure to post it here! I want to stay updated!
