I held onto our first ones for weeks. LOL No one was allowed to eat them because my dd was out of town and wanted to see them first.

I was so the other way!

I was so excited when I got my first eggs, I found a nest with 6 eggs from 3 different birds based on color. I brought them into the house and immediately fixed 4 eggs for my wife and I!

Of course we spent time ogling the bright color of the yolks. The next morning we used our last two store bought eggs and each had one store bought and one home raised egg. Again we ogled the color and taste of our eggs over walmarts eggs....

I really do not know if ours tasted better but we thought so!

I tasted ours side by side with store bought, too, and I swore ours had a richer flavor. But then again, it is hard not to be biased when you have so much invested in that single first egg!

First egg last month. I have 4 Buffs. Now they are all laying.
They are true free range birds. They're great at going back to the coop to lay and sleep. Eggs are delicious. Tough shells, and a very tough inner membrane. I can almost can peel the shell without popping the membrane.

Finally! First egg from my bantam polish. She's only almost 8 months old!
sorry.. Pic won't load.
My bantams havent started laying yet. Not quite sure of their age - I believe their about 6 months old so eggs should be coming any day . . .

Hey, if your crazy then so am I.

OK - so my little Lucy has given me 7 eggs in the last 8 days. She laid one day, skipped the next, then has given me one egg every day since. All of her eggs are perfect and weigh between 2 and 2.2 oz. I Love Lucy!!! haha
I have 5 other girls that "should be" laying, but she's the only one paying her rent so far!

At this point, I haven't eaten any of them. I'm using the last of my store-bought eggs. I blew out the first egg and will make an ornament out of it. Tomorrow is Saturday, so Hubby and I will enjoy a nice egg breakfast t

Nice looking birds and eggs! I had the same experience after I cracked the first egg. I had such a hard time cracking it open on the frying pan that I ended up with shell in the pan.

I also tried peeling the membrane from the shell and it was thick and strong. Now I know why they say older eggs are better for hard boiling because they are easier to peel once the air sac grows some and the membrane separates more easily from the shell!

I have a question for the egg experts!!!

these are my eggs today so far. Sorry I have not cleaned them yet, I do that in the evening when I am done collecting them.

Arranged by color, I never know if I should do color or size..

Anyways, my question is the light one in the middle. Do you think that could be a guinea fowl egg?

Here is a side view:

It was in the nest I have gotten about 3 like it in past week.

I have no idea what a guinea hen egg looks like, or if they lay in a box nest. The dark olive one in the carton was on the coop floor today. I thought it could be a guinea egg but reading here guineas have pinkish/light eggs that are more pointy than a chicken..So I ask,,

Thanks
