I wasn't expecting eggs for another month (they are only 19 weeks old). But, I went to check on them this afternoon and I was so surprised to see an egg in one of the nesting boxes! I sure am curious to know which one of my girls layed it. Wish they could talk! I wonder if they will all start laying now, or is it just that one breed started before the others. Glad I have started collecting cartons!

Wow, who would have though eggs would be so hard to photograph? I went out this morning to feed and found these two little eggs in the mud of the run. They are my first eggs from my first hens, so apparently two of three EE are laying

They are sort of an olive green color and smallish. Now to just get them to lay in their box.

Can't believe the size of this egg. The egg on the left is a jumbo from the store and the brown egg is from one of my girls. They have just started to lay.

I finally had scrambled eggs today! The eggs were delicious and now I'll be able to eat them with gusto!

Rebecca, where are you in the bay area? My sister was working in Oakland and saw 3 stray roosters by her shop. I don't know if she's been feeding them, but knowing her (she rescues wild birds) she is.

Finally! My 8-month-old Easter Egger Lunch laid her first egg at 12:30 today. It's almost as big as the large eggs from the store that are in my fridge, and it's a lovely pale blue. The lady who hatched Lunch claimed she (Lunch, that is) was a Welsummer, but I had my doubts as she just wasn't developing certain Welsummer traits. Now I know for sure.

It's both Lunch's and my first backyard egg ever, so it seemed fitting to make this my first forum post. Huzzah! This forum has been so helpful to me over the past 8 months, from building the coop to learning the signs of laying to dealing with a mercifully light bout of lice (blech). Thanks to all!

A few weeks ago we found our Barred Rock Sicilia laying an egg. It is posted above. A few days after, our Buckeye Sienna laid her first, our mutt Stella laid a green egg

and our Turken Joesephine laid her first and they are all so gorgeous I don't want to eat them
