Our first dark brown egg from our Barnevelder. She did good. We had to really work with the ceramic eggs with our Wyandottes to get them to use the nesting box. My Bernie was a natural, beautiful clean first egg nestled gently with the ceramic egg in the nesting box. I'm so proud of her. She doesn't have much of a comb but I did notice more reddening around the face, she's been squatting for about 2-weeks and I knew the time was coming. I am verrrrrrryyy happy. It's been below freezing here in the Pacific NW with about 8 hours of natural daylight, we don't substitute, and three of our girls are laying regularly. Just waiting on the Spitzhauben now

awesome! Very nice rich color. I was dreaming about getting some Barnevelder chicks, but it has not happened yet.
Our girls are also laying very well in these short days (no artificial lighting), it is so amazing!

My over 8 month old Silver laced Polish named Einsten FINALLY laid her first egg. It is the small white one beside the dark brown egg laid by my cuckoo maran named Pebbles. Love my small flock of chickens!! Finally all ten girls are laying!!

My first egg!!! From my 6 month old Golden Laced Wyandottes. Two were in nesting boxes this morning so hopefully I'll have more today! Took the clever girls long enough!
