FINALLY I can chime in here....after 2 weeks of waiting and watching, I finally found this in the coop this afternoon:
I was so happy, you'd think I'd laid the egg myself!!
It's a bit dirty, whoever the lucky hen was laid it on the floor just outside a nest box. At least she got it in the vicinity LOL. It cleaned up nicely with a damp paper towel and is now sitting in the fridge while I let the excitement wear off enough to eat it!
My egg scale shows it's a "medium" egg and I was pretty suprised how big it is for a pullet egg. It's about as "tall" as a store-bought egg but is quite a bit skinnier. Wonder if it could be a double yolk?
I'm assuming this had to come from one of my red sex-link hens, they're among the oldest, right at 18 weeks!
My mom is coming to visit next week and she is really excited to meet my chickens....I was SO hoping they'd start laying by or before the week she would be here so she could collect eggs.....I am THRILLED that they started laying "right on time" so my mom can really enjoy them!!!
