Oh, and as I've recently uploaded a bunch O pics...

Here is my first double yoker. The four eggs were the haul that day from the four laying. That same leghorn layed a double yoker the very next day too! Both bottomed out the egg scale that reads to 32 grams. What's shown is a 22 gram from BR on left up to 26 gram from Black Star then the Whopper Double Yoker.

19 weeks and 4 days. I didn't expect it this early cause the days are already short here in New England. We didn't even have the rest boxes ready yet, she laid on top of a bag of pine shavings. This one came from our barred rock , Ziggy. I'm so proud of her!!!

Got my first egg today. I hope they start coming faster. Seem like I had to wait extra long for this one.

I think this is my first post (*edit*- it is my 5th and I don't remember posting prior to this, lol) but I have been doing A LOT of reading over the last months. We picked up a couple production reds in late June since my stupid dog decided to eat the first two chicks we got in early May. My friend at work was always talking about his chickens and their eggs but it took a while for me to convince the wife to get a couple of our own.
Officially the two girls names are Ashley and Amber. We only have the two for now but I will be adding one or two more next year. My plan is to stagger them by a year or two so the egg laying doesn't come to a stop all at once. Being that we are only on a 1/3 of an acre, I am limited to only having a few hens.
I said their names are "officially" Ashley and Amber, but Amber turned into hAmberger when we asked our 3 year old to say Amber and she said Hamburger.

We got a good laugh at that but kept saying Hamburger.

Anyway, we got our first egg today. Hamburger started to squat earlier this week so I knew it would be soon, but didn't expect it to be this soon.
I will try to post a pic.

This (hopefully) is her egg in with the store bought large eggs.
