Got our first egg! From our barred rock, about 21 weeks old. I'm so proud of her!

Looks like this has been the week of Barred Rocks, because another of my 22 week olds laid her first egg!

This is Clover's egg next to a storebought (but local farm laid) egg:


Poor quality, but my camera batteries were dying and I couldn't get it to focus. It's light brown with dark brown speckles all over. The prettiest egg so far...

My freeloading black australorp, Steve, finally laid her first egg yesterday at 33 weeks of age! Sheesh! It is our first brown egg; our other laying hen gives us small cream colored ones. Yay!

Maybe Steve thought he was a boy and didn't know he was suppose to lay an egg!!
Well I thought it was funny!!

Oh my. Thanks for indulging me. What an exciting day it is. The sky is blue, the air is crisp and my beau found a blue-green egg where the girls like to hop inside a half-whiskey barrel. One of the three Easter Eggers is the culprit. The girls are 25 weeks old. I suspect it was either Fig or Fern, as Piccadilly is still a bit smaller and her comb is not as red and is smaller too. Here is the egg and the Easter Eggers:






Fig: The sweetest and friendliest of the girls.




Fern: Here she is before her comb and face reddened. She's a friendly girl and pretty too.

Now this is an egg lol from my pullett Red Hampshire. She lays one a week roughly this size lol....ouch.

My hen laid her first few eggs this week! She is 5 1/2 months old. Hers are the blue/green ones in the carton

4 or 5 times a day and every time I hear a hen sing!!! You are so right!!
