Iansmommy- congrats I'm waiting on my 9 B.O's to lay. They will be 19 weeks on Wed. What are the temps like there? Its mostly in the upper 80's around here now.

It has been very hot here, ranging in the mid to upper 90's. Poor things are panting. No more eggs yet though.

I just wanted to add that we cracked the egg open this morning and it was a double yoker

That's beautiful. It's so big!! I sure wish my BO pullet would get going! She's almost 20 weeks old and still has pink comb and wattles and is showing no signs of laying! Oh well, at least my Golden Comets are laying!

This is my daughter Lea with our first egg, she discovered it this morning. We didn't even have a nesting box ready...we just got a Cochin with her mixed Cochin/Silkie babies and I was about to ask on here if being with her babies would stop her from having eggs and I see I didn't have too...We also got a Silkie and four other Silkie/Cochin mixes and one Production Red...so this is our very first egg ever and we're so excited!!!

The eggon the right was in one of the nest boxes this morning. (The egg on the left is store bought.) I believe it's from one of my red stars, Henrietta. It was IN the nest box! Woohoo!!!

Then I found that Sasha, my mutt chicken who's been laying for years, was in the nest box too. A different box and she lays white eggs anyway. But she was in the nest box! She's been hiding her eggs for months now!

Hurray!!! Hermione our 18wk old Barred Rock laid her first egg today. It is very, very small. I think it is probably a "wind" egg but I haven't cracked it yet to see. It's about the size of two malted milk balls put together.

My oldest son Ian holding it (the way he's holding it out makes it look bigger than it is):

Make that...we got our first three today!!!

The first one we weren't prepared for...so it was just in the coop. The second time we put out a nesting box and she went again in the nesting box...I still have to figure out what to do about the other chicken that laid...right now we have the Mama and her babies separated from the other four chickens, so we've got to put something down there because that chicken laid in the chicken run. Our coop/run is a rabbit hutch that we enclosed at the bottom and extended out on the side as a run, so my P.R., silkie mixes and eithe black silkie or black cochin is down at the bottom with the mom and her chicks at the top...by the way we lost a chick today, not to death but somehow about three of the baby silkies got out and boy are they fast...we only got two back. I think my daughter was so excited about the first egg she didn't lock it back right.
