The one on the left is from one of our newest chickens, a RSL we got at the auction. The one on the right is our first egg from our Exchequer (from our original group of May/June chickens).

Bout time some of them started laying! 2 eggs in 1 day, woohoo!!

Our first 'pullet egg' laid by 'Redwing', a golden comet. She started at the age of 16 weeks, 3 days.

It's 5 cm long. She's on her fifth consecutive day of laying, with each egg slightly larger. Her practice shell is shown beside the first real egg, I guess her body decided to make a sandpapery one first. We now have 4 girls laying out of the 12 acquired at the age of 12 hours on May 16.

Today we had 5 eggs from 12 birds, things are looking up! You can tell the eggs from the new girls because they're smaller and paler. We'd had one triple-yolker and two doubles.

Update Sept. 21, 2008- We're getting 9-10 eggs a day now, many of them double-yolkers and jumbo size. I'm boiling the extras to feed to our feral cat colony, a great solution to providing protein for the felines over the winter!

Hattie finally did it! She layed her first egg last Wed and is up to 4 total today. I can't wait until the other 2 start laying too.

Ruby, the black star laid the first egg on 9/10 at 19 1/2 weeks old. Then Kaliope started laying two days later. She tried to lay in the nest box, but I found her egg on the ground and stepped on it! I was crushed, no pun intended! The second day, she laid her egg outside again after sitting for over an our in the nest box. Ruby is still laying faithfully in the morning in the nest box. It seems they have their favorite box to use too. Two little pullet eggs a day now!
