I use Flex Watt heat strip it is on the bottom. I use an electronic thermostat with a probe at the level of the top of the eggs. The unit itself is located outside the incubator so the electronics are not effected by humidity.

Well, for what it is worth... here are my "innerds". I used straws cut to about 3/4" long as spacers to hold the thermostat off the wall. It is placed right above the 60 watt light bulb, maybe 2-1/2 to 3" above it. My fan is in the corner and blows toward the opposite corner. I have a piece of sheet metal bent that is just above the light bulb but still below the fan, and it separates the chicks from the light bulb. The night light is the only thing not shown, and of course, it's just so I can always see in there.
Mine works well. My temps run 99-102. My first hatch was four of five local eggs. I'm on my second and have eight of twelve in lockdown and looking good to hatch.

And My vents are plastic spice jars, I love them. To cut them in all I had to do was twist them, and when I want them open just snap them open, and when I want them closed, they seal shut.

I have one spice jar low under my fan, and the other one high and directly across from the fan. They work great. I can open the top one and lower humidity a small amount, or open both and get it down quick. I did dry incubation this time and I kept both open the first two weeks, it worked well.

Here is a better picture of mine than I put on the other post. You can see the white cover with slots in it over top of the light bulb. That is where I have my thermostat with the back of it facing down toward the light. It is holding within 2/10 of a degree. I suppose that every incubator has differences that require different set ups. This just happens to be what works for me.

Okay so I gave up on the light bulb with the thermostat and I moved the Incubator from downstairs to upstairs and I put 3 reptile heat pads in each side and the back of the incubator and kept the thermostat just incase it get way too hot, an at the moment for the past 6 hours it had been running around 98*F-99.5*F... (although I have not seen it yet run below 98.6* or above 99.6*)... I took out the fan and poked more holes in it... this will probably be an epic fail.

here is mine, the light & thermostat & fan are mounted in the top, & it is made out of 1 inch plywood & holds temp very good, it runs a wafer type thermostat & a PC fan, & holds about 2 doz. eggs.
