postings are not an indicator of experience with birds

So true! Just because you read it, doesn't mean it's true.

I've had chickens my whole life (56+years) but it's still possible to learn something new or a better, easier way to do something.

How? How? See I have over 100 and I have no idea the answer to that.

The suspense is killing me come on!!! I HAVE to know this!! I do have less than 100 posts! (I really do want to know!)

This may sound crazy (famous last words) but to get a pheasant hen to hatch eggs you have to make a nest box out of something that doesn't drain (i.e. a wash tub) fill it half way with sand and gravel(gravel at bottom) the other half with straw and you have to WATER IT EVERY DAY other wise the hen will lose interest because ( I guess ) pheasants are like marsh birds and prefer a damp nest. I promise this is no joke I have done it several times. It was a trick I learned from my great grandpa. But it is the only way I know of to get a pheasant to lay in captivity. Does not work with quail!

So quail don't like a moist nest? The good Ole days...see we can still learn from our ancestors. Thanks Great Grandpa!

I'm not saying you should flood it-just moist or damp-----not lay either but to actually hatch eggs....sorry if I caused a misunderstanding

Not even the memories of your mother hen, the coop you called home, and your little fuzzy butt brothers and sisters? That's so sad.

Imp

Nor my rooster daddy my momma called Foghorn.

But now, I've found all of you, my new chicken family, and Nifty our new internet chicken rooster and Terrie our internet top of the pecking order quacking hen.

It's just touching ain't it. Sniff, sniff.

Just remember. Some one can post something about chickens that are either incorrect or controversial. The rest of the people on here will figure this out and usually correct this. Oh yes, I have posted wrongly and have been corrected. Do not take offense at this, no flaming is involved and one usually learns some thing.

Welcome to the insanity.

Interesting. And it does make sense. DH is going to try it. His hen has been laying 3-5 a week.
