that sounds like a good option. What's the downside?

If we properly disable all email notifications, I don't think (hope) there wouldn't be any downsides other than it just taking forever.

Sorry, no updates. This is back-burner to some other things we're working on (like the update to xf 2.2, fixing cloudflare / image issues, etc.)
