Potassium Sorbate in Water

Is it safe to put Potassium Sorbate in your chickens' waterers to keep their water free from algae and other natural contaminants? If not, what other natural ways would you recommend using?

You don't need chemicals; just clean and refill the waterer daily.

I agree with @Perris water needs to be changed out daily, scrub waterers clean and refill with fresh water. Chemicals are dangerous and are not the answer to old water. Especially in this heat, birds need a lot of plain clean water to stay cool.
