I wanna do potatoes during the fall-winter months. How do I pick good ones, and how do i make them grow eyes. I was thinking about getting store bought ones, since they are cheap. If you have any helpful links, please give me them. :) Thank you!

In recent years most store bought potatoes have been treated in a manner that greatly inhibits the development of eyes. For best results you should go with either home grown potatoes or purchase seed potatoes from one of the online garden catalogs. I really like Pontiac Red and Viking potatoes.

Agreed with R2E. I would not try to grow store bought potatoes. They are likely to be a miserable failure. Your best bet is to contact your county Ag Extension office, and ask what varieties do well in your area. Both R2E and I are in snow country, and what works for us, may not work for you. My favorites are: Kennebec and Adirondack Red. There are so very many varieties, that it really depends on what you like. White, red, blue, yellow flesh. Moist, waxy, or dry mealy flesh. Fingerlings, all the way up to one potato will be a meal for two!!!
