Potential coccidiosis. Need advice?

I have a 3(ish) year old cochin hen that I believe has coccidiosis. She’s congested, coughing, sneezing, has explosive diarrhea and won’t take fluids on her own but will eat anything I give her. She’s somewhat lethargic and makes a ton of crackly noises. For the last 2 days I’ve been giving her and the rest of my flock CORID(amprolium) but so far no change. I immediately separated her from the rest of the flock when I noticed her symptoms and out of character behavior (she didn’t go into the coop one night and I couldn’t find her. she has never done this before). Is there anything else I can do?

While it's commendable that you've noticed this hen's behavior is atypical pointing to something being wrong, you may be misreading the symptoms.

Cocciciosis symptoms include lethargy and diarrhea and unkempt feathers and a hunched, fluffed posture. Your hen's symptoms are upper respiratory congestion and breathing issues. Therefore, you'd be serving her better by addressing those with an antibiotic that targets CRDs - Tylosin or Tylan. Corid does none of that as it merely blocks thiamine (B-1).

Thank you for the advice. I immediately took out the corid and replaced it with regular water and now she’s drinking on her own for the first time in days which is a huge relief. I also called my local feed store and they carry tylan 50 but are out of stock and won’t get a new shipment until next week. Is there anything else I can give her? I also have another sick cochin(her sister) but she had a completely unrelated issue(some sort of abscess below her vent. I made separate post about her.)

Order the Tylan 50. If she's getting worse, you can substitute another antibiotic if you happen to have one. If her symptoms remain mild, she can wait for the Tylan.

Tylan 50 can be given orally instead of by injection, which can damage tissue. Dose is 0.25 ml per pound of body weight 4 times a day, or 0.33 ml per pound three times a day.

I havent been able to get the Tylan yet. Something went wrong with the shipment and the feed store doesn’t know when it’s coming in. Could be tomorrow could be in 2 weeks. Does anyone know why she’s doing this? I noticed she randomly does it a few days ago and have no clue what it means. She’s still crackly and sneezes every once and a while, and still snores. She isn’t coughing as much anymore though. I had a video if it but can’t upload it on here so I took screenshots. Is she just sleeping? Or is this an indication of something else.

Load your video to YouTube. Copy the URL and paste it here. The video will then embed.

These respiratory illnesses usually resolve on their own. If she seems to be getting worse, you will need to treat her with the Tylan.

me too. i’m going to call the feed store every day until they get the shipment. hopefully its soon😔
update. the feed store was misinformed or something idek. basically their distributor no longer sells it. i found tylosin 10% for about $10.00 for a small bottle. i looked it up and its basically the same thing as tylan 50, just much more potent. should i get it? its several day shipping😕. she’s still acting sick but i dont think she’s dying. just very lethargic and sleeps a lot. she’s having diarrhea again as well. but she eats a lot and drinks water freely so she’s able to take care of herself.
