Potters?

I have several family members that are potters, but it just didn't run in my veins.

Have any of you ever been to Seagrove, NC (the Pottery Capital) ? That is where my family is from and I grew up there.....also I think Scrambled Eggs hubby's family is from the Seagrove area. If you have never been you really need to go when they have there Pottery Festival. Beautiful work all around!!!!! I think they have a museum there. Very small town and so cozy.

I would love to see more pics of your pottery.

Tonight is glazing night....if everything survived the bisque firing, I have a bird house and four mugs to glaze. Thinking about taking a second class from a different teacher in the winter. Pottery two nights a week! WooHoo!
I'll have to look up the Seagrove, NC, festival...sounds interesting. I'm thinking about an extended vacation this summer someplace where I can take lessons. Maybe I can find something there!

Nice glazing. I just made a few beads myself for the first time...it was a success & I will definitely be making more...my inner hippie will be macrame-ing with them.

So, do you mix your own glazes? When I was taking classes, my glazing usually came out great, but now that I'm on my own it's a struggle. Fired pieces frequently come out looking like the glaze wasn't thick enough & when I go to the extreme of globbing on the thick stuff from the bottom of the glaze bucket, it's almost ok...maybe I need to go back to class...& pay attention this time

I was going to ask if any of you are potters, but Then I thought, 'it's a chicken site.'
I have been doing relief carvings of chickens on my husband's pots though.
so... I was eventually going to make the connection.
I love your works. The beads were wonderfully glazed.
I will put this on subscribed posts so that when I have time I can come back and re read all of this great info.
We have the wheels and kiln, but seem to lack the time.

I don't mix my own glazes. I use commercial glazes. I think the secret is to stir your glaze well everytime you use it. I usually do three coats of a glaze. The first coat is usually watered down. But beads I usually dip, then brush off the excess. But the clay and the glaze and the kiln all seem to have a mind of their own and you never know how things are going to come out. But that's part of what I love about the process. I absolutely adore opening the kiln when it's cooled. It's like Christmas morning.

Since we have quite a few potters here.......
I keep seeing these swap threads. Would there be enough potters interested in doing a bowl swap? A local charity has artists create bowls to donate. The public can buy tickets to a party one night where they get to choose one of those bowls and get soup to go with it. They call it Art Soup. Great fundraiser! We always love getting bowls by other potters.
I figure we could all sign up, be assigned a partner, and send a bowl we made out to our partner...if there is enough interest. Enough people interested for us to try to put it together?
