Potting soil...

Is potting soil toxic or harmful in any way to chicks/chickens?? Potting soil has those white rock like things in it (I don't know what it is called). Anyone have the answer to this one? Thanks.

I'd probably try to stay away from the potting soil with little fertilizer beads in it (i.e. continuous feeding soil).
