Poultry Books

Quote:
i bought The Mating and Breeding of Poultry by Harry Lamon . i feel like it was $10 well spent. the original was written in the early 20th century, so there are things that seem strange to read, like how Mendelian genetics aren't completely understood or accepted. but most of the information is really good. they have some of the most common breeds listed and talk about how to breed to specific type. it's fairly easy to follow to, since you don't need to understand Mendelian genetics for it to make sense.

i'm getting Genetics of the Fowl: The Classic Guide to Chicken Genetics and Poultry Breeding by Frederick Hutt next (it's $40, so i wanted to make sure i really wanted it). It was first published in 1949 and is supposedly great.

i'm still looking for a modern book on poultry genetics, but those should get you started. the seem to be good foundation pieces.
