I really like the look of those Pita Pintas! They're very much like my splash Andalusians. I'm trying to cut back or I would really like to get some.

Do you ever get over this way? Maybe a couple of hens wouldn't tax me too much. I wouldn't be a breeder of them though, Lord knows my hands are full with these blue birds so don't hold any for me, just pondering right now.

I started late hatching them this year so I do not have pullets yet. My second hatch is in the incubator now. I did hatch three a couple of weeks ago and I have a video of them going outside.

I started late hatching them this year so I do not have pullets yet. My second hatch is in the incubator now. I did hatch three a couple of weeks ago and I have a video of them going outside.

Helping with hatch rates is what I got the Educator badge for. I love that stuff.

Yes, they are hatch mates. The Pita Pintas grow just a bit slower than American Bresse but are very fast growing. They taste good too so I do not mind Cockerels.

It is so fun to see what others are producing. My PP's are sure growing well. The roo is now crowing though it is still a funny crow. He gets the first part right and then scrambles the ending. Way too funny. I need to find a name for him. All I can think of is Jose and I really want something not quite so common. I think they are 15 weeks old now, but will have to look at my calendar to say for sure. I'll post new pictures at 16 weeks.

I've sold all but two of the PP/Black Copper Maran pullets. I really want to see what and how they lay, and, may put them with the white Emp/PP rooster beings he is a lone ranger... ahah... he now has a name. No one seems to want the rest of the roosters so I guess they will be freezer fodder for us one day soon. They too, are starting to crow.

Thinking of building another chicken house but I'm not having much luck thinking of what I would like to have. I've still got lots of time left to think about it. My rotator cuff is mending but three months of healing doesn't make it good enough to take on a building project.

A lot going on this past couple of weeks. I sold the older chickens... a foursome of Light Brahmas. Also, the Black Copper Maran roo, Blue Maran hen, and the Welsummer hen sold two days ago. It is nice to have those big eaters gone and feels good to be closer to my goal of the 100% PP flock.

I am now down to just my 1 year old PP hens, the 5 PP chicks, the two questionable breed of the PP order from MPC (1 pullet & 1 roo) and the 4 PP/BCP chicks I wanted to keep so I can see what they will throw in the next cross. I have a few extra cockerels left that no one seems to want. I also need to make a decision on the Emp cross cockerel, and the odd colored pullet. I may have to buy some Emp hatching eggs this fall/winter for the Emp cross.

Two of my older PP hens are broody and I gave them some of the BCP cross eggs to see how they will do at setting and motherhood.

Week 16 is this weekend so I will need to post photos again.

So, all is well as the rotator cuff is getting better by the week.

That's good news cooliechick. It's always nice to see our goals coming together.

I have 3 large fowl hens in my Andalusian flock that are being sold along with a rooster from my bantam project. He's plenty big enough to take care of large fowl girls as my project is only on the 4th generation (he is part of that) and he is sire to a lot of youngsters in this year's 5th generation. He is sire to a lot of large fowl chicks as well. Anyway, they will be getting picked up tomorrow evening.

I have 8 hens I'm keeping and one cock bird. He's not fabulous but he has great size. I'm working on making fabulous birds. Almost all of my birds have been moved out of the main barn to other pens. I've got 3 hens left to cull. I have a lot of promising young stock to go through.

Once my barn is empty, I'll be able to take that roof off and get that project going. I've got 4 months until my son ships out into the Navy so I need to get going on that. Right now we're just trying to survive the heat. Early morning riser, I am not, but I need to in order to work on that barn roof.

We are moving into a cool down period now so that is going to be nice!
