245 eggs for the first year seems about right. They lay very close to my two Golden comets did their first year.

Lacy, these are the only ones in the US that we can find period.

It sounds like we can get red from what we have though. Pepe has a bit of red in his hackle feathers. We need to hatch a white sport and then figure out where to go from there!

Would that be blanquirossa? I found a spanish site for the empordanesa varieties.

White body, red head and red/black tail but no spots. A very very pretty bird! Is this correct?

I speak a little Spanish and blanco is white, rossa is pink/red so blanquirossa , white/red sounds good to me.

I hatched 1 cockerel from Megan's eggs that had brassy colored hackle feathers. He is currently residing in my freezer. It looks like the Spanish article says that you can get the red ones by breeding two white sports. Is that correct?

I think so!

Now to hatch some white sports....

I like the black and whites. After finding some pictures, I was not impressed by the effect. Again, you guys have an interesting breed.

I wonder what the color pattern relationship would be to the Ermine(sp?)? Did I even get that right?

Jason, I know where you are coming from. I hope to keep some NHs going, but the Catalanas is what I am interested in. I will send you some progress pictures, to include the project(s). I think you will like what you see.
One or two breeds is enough for most of us. One project breed is a lot of hatching on it's own. Let me know what you end up deciding on.

Its a hard decision . I am really liking the meat quality of the black. Crele is what I am most proud of but am in love with Empordanesa . Id hate to see them disappear here.

Darnit . My goat area is almost done and then I can free range something with them at least
