Poultry Breeds of Spanish Ancestry

Ronott1 , A valuable bit of info you just said "i use 'just one bite' " . 'Just One Bite' is by far the best stuff out there for eliminating Rats/Mice . But one must keep it out all the time !!!
They swear to me at feed store that it will not kill or damage other animals .............. i'm still particular about where i put it out . it might cost more for start up but well worth it to be rid of mice and rats
I hung the bait on wires and then secured the wire to something. I do have one out to monitor for new rat activity. I was a amazed at how fast it worked and I have not lost any animals either.

Would you mind sharing a picture of how you did that Ron? I have placed the poison baits inside buckets that the chickens cannot get to and I'm really hoping the mice cannot get out of. So far, in those situations, there have been no casualties. My son put some on the coop floor in areas that are not being used. I have seen 3 mice so far that have eaten the poison and wandered off.

It's not one bite, I don't think. Whatever it is, I don't like the mice wandering off after eating the stuff as my birds will go after a mouse!

I will work on getting a picture later.

Just one bite has a very low secondary kill rate. The rodent eats the poison and gets a fatal dose. poison then metabolizes over about three days and is pretty much gone by the time the rodent dies.

They also stop eating so it is not in the droppings anymore.

In other words, an average dog would have to eat a lot of dead rats. Most of the rats and mice die in their nest because they do not feel good so there will not be many that they can eat.

I check the yard before letting the chickens out just to be safe though.

What if the chick isn't sticky or dry?

The abdomen is mostly closed but most of the yolk sac is still outside their body at hatch.
It is from the same causes.

Along with turning more and completely to the 45 degree angle, using a cool down cycle will help.

If this is a frequent or semi frequent occurrence, I would suspect an incubation problem. If this is a rare occurrence, like one in one hundred, I would suspect that the chick was not genetically fit, and cull it.

I have read of some cutting the cord, and the chick going on to do well. I cannot think of a good reason to do this.

I agree--The chick can bleed out so if the cord is cut, it needs to be tied off first with something like dental floss.

I let it fall off by itself and the chick is usually fine. Sometimes it pulls out the intestines though.
