Lacy, I do not dry hatch and I live in the humid Southeast. I think dry hatching is over rated and it is good thing that eggs are forgiving.

I tend to follow the "rules", and I do pretty well.

Yes!

Humidity is not that critical and works with a wide range of levels from 30 to 55% during the first18 days. Temperatures need to stay within 1 degree of 99.5. A bit too low and a bit too high over 18 days will really mess up a hatch. 2 degrees and they all die.

Ok, so to raise my temperature .5 degrees, how do I do that? I know about the little switches on the controller... right now mine are... only switch number 6 is toggled up.

Do you have an accurate thermometer?

What day did they hatch on. If they hatched early the temperature may be too high. If late, then too low.

My genesis is set with 3 up on one incubator and 4 up on the other. To raise the temperature, un plug the incubator and move 6 down and then 7 up.

Another cause of low average temperatures is if the incubator is in a room that gets cold at night. If so, you may be able to keep the settings you have and set up a thermostatically controlled portable heater for the room they are in. I use a walk in closet.

I have always followed the rules too but it didn't seem to make any difference.

I'm not going to be stubborn about this and I will be monitoring them closely. If y'all will be here to help me, I would really appreciate it.
I am always up for helping with hatch issues!

thats always my issue I had with the wafer on the old one, darn draft house

Thank you Ron. I really appreciate that.

I just put my thermometer/hygrometer back into the incubator. I had it out, taking readings of the room.

To answer your question about an early or late hatch, I'd have to say BOTH. They were due on Wednesday evening. The first one hatched early Wednesday morning and the second one hatched really late Thursday night.

I'm trying to think where I could move the incubator to that might have a more constant temperature. No closet space available but right now they're in the laundry room by the back door. So maybe I need to put it somewhere else.

When I move it, I will unplug and change the setting.

you can also try and roll up a towel and put it at the bottom of the door if your not going n and out of it all the time to help with drafts

Oh, forgot to say... I BETTER have a good thermometer. I drove all the way to Reno (1-1/4 hours) to a cigar shop and paid I can't remember exactly how much, I'm thinking it was somewhere anywhere between $10 - $20 for the thing. I had just had a very bad experience with a hygrometer that kept telling me I didn't have enough humidity. I had just moved to this desert the summer before and so I really had no idea. So, to make a long story short... very bad hatch... and yes some hatched. Many had crooked toes, others were kind of mushy and still others had some pretty big issues with the tendon of the hock joint. I replace the battery every spring.

Just checked my thermometer and it says it is 98* in there. So, do I just put the #7 toggle up?
