Poultry Management Software

I am an independent software developer (read that as unemployed) working on a flock management application for my own farm. It hasn't been a major priority, but it could be. If you're interested in working together on something like that I'd be happy to share the spoils. At this point, the software runs under Windows 10 and is in the very very very beginnings of development so this would be a great time to get your input and suggestions. This is a fun project for me, so it's not commercial. Maybe in the future, but for the moment anything that comes of it will be freely shared among members.

Westdale, I would love to be kept apprised of this. I am interested in tracking relationships to prevent close inbreeding. So I'd like a program that automatically calculated the degree of inbreeding for each mating or planned mating.

Also, I am Mac based and would really love a program that ran on Apple products. I use a Macbook Pro laptop for everything.

Hmmm. Not getting much pickup on the software question. For you breeders who use paper records, what do YOU record?

I'm talkin' basics. For starters maybe:

Wingband, Name, DOB, Sire, Dam, Color, Wt@ 1yr, Clan

What is important for YOU to record to figure out relationships and matings going forward?

@Mossy Dell, I am no expert in breeding chickens (far from it), but looking up all the types of breeding someone can use to reproduce chickens and other animals, it seems what is important to record about flocks, concerns what kind of selective breeding you are going for. Are you looking for eggs, meat, beauty, resilience, dual-purpose, quality show birds, SOP specimens, temperament, all the mentioned, or none of them as you're going for mutts or a new kind of breed? Once you figure out what you want from your chickens, you'll be able to narrow down what to really record about them for future breeding projects. Hope that helps!

I do:
Common Name
Band
Breed
Coloration/noticeable traits
Pen
Sex

Most of my pens have multiple males and females however, so individual parents often aren't possible to figure out.
