I live in Maryland. This may be a Maryland-thing, or perhaps it's everwhere. But I feel as though I must be missing something-

I follow some local Chicken-groups on Facebook. Recently I've been interested in getting some hatching eggs or chicks from a local person, but I'm having trouble reading between the lines of social media rules. I know that many platforms and/or groups do not permit the buying and selling of live animals, and therefore people are cautious. That part I get. What I don't understand is the large number of Facebook chicken tenders who won't share their general location with the public. Like, I'm not looking for an address. I'm not going to show up on your doorstep and yell "surprise!" I just want to know whether or not you are located within a driveable distance from me. Give me a region, a county, a vague idea of where you are. I find it a hassle to have to PM a bunch of different people, then wait however long for a response, just to figure out out if you're even close enough for me to consider. It also starts to feel a little shady. Should I be suspicious of these people, or is this typical? Is it a Maryland thing or does it happen everywhere? Am I just being crotchety and looking for something insignificant to rant about?

Apparently FB is now monitoring PMs(Private Messages), my mom got in trouble during the private selling of my Jersey Giant cross pullets last month.

Just giving the heads up.

I'm thinking maybe a Maryland thing? Most of the people in my group in FB share where they are willing to meet up for the birds
I had a feeling it might be specific to Maryland 🙄. But even thoguh MD is very particular about things, I still can't figure out why some of these folks seem to be so difficult to work with. I PMed one farm to ask where they were located. They responded with "hello." Another person I sent a message asking if they had eggs and where they were located. They "loved" my message, but did not type a response... I don't get it.

I don't have a FB account anymore, so I browse using my work account. I have messaged people, asking them to contact me at my email address. I've gotten a "Why?" reply a couple times, most don't bother to answer.

I'm probably going to go with a hatchery.

So frustrating! We all want to support small & local, but some folks (not all of course) are so difficult to communicate with.
