Poultry/Small Animal Swap Meet - TSC Georgetown KY 9/18/10

Makes sense I just thought the Buff with the Mille would be a cool combo...but bring what you can part with. I do not like cuddlebug roosters necessarily but I want friendly, non-aggressive boys that I can handle without dodging. LOL Although with a 1 - 2 lb boy that is far less issue than I have normally with my 8 - 12 lb boys.

I could not even imagine trying to trim Thor's spurs if he was not good with handling.

Right now Luna, my splash cochin and Ruby, the red cochin are in the harem of my 12 lb Thor, splash orp. LOL So I am excited to see those blue standard boys for sure. The light color appeals to me because she is a splash.

But, bring em and lets look em over. What are you asking for your standard boys?

I don't tolerate aggressive behavior in my roosters....although I make a few exceptions for the bantams. My mottled bantam (not the youngun for sale, an unrelated adult) is a little jerk but he is still so darn likable, even when he wants to bite your toes. My big roos either have to be "nice" or they get the boot out of my coops. The bantam boys always seem to be much more fiesty than the big guys. The blue boys are just fine....the older dark boy has a group of girls he grew up with that he follows around the yard. The silvery light boy has a young group of boys and girls he hangs out with. They are both docile and non-aggressive......they can be held without biting. I originally had a pair of silvery light blue boys....gave one to HappyMtn a while back and I think she is really happy with him. The gold laced boys are pretty docile as well. My adult blue cochin roo is a great guy....very good to his girls, very laid back with the other roosters, does GREAT hawk calls and is very gentle and nonaggressive with people.

I hadn't planned on selling them anytime soon, so not sure what I would ask for them. I will take a better look at them tonight, get pix and let you know. They are not show quality, so it would not be anything ridiculous. Either $5 or $10 each.

As far as the list of sale birds for the swap, I *do* have a pair of black bantam cochins after all. Wasn't sure on sex on the boy.....but he was clucking and dancing with treats this morning. So the list (in addition to all boys listed yesterday) is (all 3-4 months old)

Pair of large fowl silver laced cochins
Pair of bantam black cochins
Pair of bantam white cochins (might be sale pending)
Pair of silver laced bantam cochins (might be sale pending)
Pair of bantam cochins, red pullet, gold laced roo
Pair of bantam cochins, black pullet, gold laced roo
Pair of bantam cochins, silver laced pullet, gold laced roo (or silver laced roo)

That is what is available to be added to my list...I don't have room to bring all of those, so if someone wants something in particular, please let me know. I don't have pictures of any of these currently, but can get them.....all gold laced and silver laced are running in the big yard with the big flock, putting themselves to bed in a secure coop at night and free ranging on a half acre during the day. All others are in a large growout pen of young pullets.

I have no gold laced cochin pullets available.

I know a lady who would be very interested in the cochins. I can email her if you'd like. She was at the fair last month and didn't get any. She was in the store three days ago asking again.

Sarah...did you order bantams when Hera came? She should be about 12 - 14 weeks old right? Some on the cochin thread think she is a standard sized...I am thinking about getting a pair from NellaBean just in case....What's the scoop on Hera? Baize is a gonna be a big boy. Did the coon get anyone Sarah?

Nella...stand by on the bantam cockerel or bantam pair decision here...LOL either way I am getting some of your babies.

Nella does she look bantam or standard to you....this is my 80 lbs Great Pyr/Lab cross by her she should have been about 8 weeks old in these

I didn't order bantams. I ordered that "hatchery surprise". So I got what i got. She seems small to me. That's why I assumed she was bantam. Relative to the chicks last month, she was small and they are large fowl.

And yes, that "thing" killed my EE and three of my CQs. It also bit my beautiful $50 orp pullet in the head. She was in total shock this morning when I went in. I have crated her and done all I know to do to save her, but I'm not sure.......It seems the $%@^$#&%* thing ripped off a panel of the stall and got in. Jeff put up more boards, more wire and we are getting more supplies at TSC today. WE are also getting a trap.

The worse part is the bodies were still warm at 7 am. The ^#&*@%(@&%^#(&^@($&*^ thing came in this morning and killed them. Just KILLED them. I can almost forgive being hungry and eating them, but it just killed them.

Cochins are kind of slow growers....she looks kind of big to me to be a bantam at only 8 weeks. But its hard to tell via pictures.

I ended up with both large fowl and bantam in silver laced cochins...and threw them all together..and a few of them its hard to tell which is which.

You can let her know if you'd like. I ended up with about 20 bantam cochin pullets and at least 10 cockerels. I am selling all the extra off in pairs to get rid of the extra boys and keeping some girls for myself. I had planned to keep ALL girls for myself, but found a group of adult bantam cochin girls here locally that are going to be added onto the flock (after quarantine) this weekend. So I don't need as many of extras now.
