Power outage - 3/4 day old chicks

Hello all. Looking for a little advice. We brought home two additional chicks yesterday (hatched Wed/Thurs) and our power has gone out. Its currently 81°F under the heat plate, 77°F in the warmest part of their brooder, and about 72°F at the end furthest away from the plate.

The pair are currently huddled in the corner under their plate. Im guessing a little chilly. Any suggestions for keeping these two warm until it comes back on?

Edit: I did drape a little towel over three sides of the plate to try trap some heat in and put a blanket over their brooder.

Good idea about draping a towel over the plate and blanket over the brooder.

If the power continues to be out - do you still have Hot water? You could use some hot water bottles - fill a plastic water bottle with hot water and put under the plate.

If you have them - Hot Hands - those things you put in your pockets to keep hands warm? Those get nice and warm too. I would definitely wrap them in a thin towel like a kitchen towel so the chicks aren't directly on the warmer - it may actually get too hot with their body heat.

Keeping the blanket over the brooder and not moving it around a lot to keep checking on the chicks (I know tempting!) will help keep some of the heat in as well.

Just some ideas, hopefully others will chime in.

We ran to cvs but no luck on the Hot Hands. We did pick up a hot water bottle though. I wrapped that in a t-shirt and stuck it under the heating plate (raised up). They seem happier now. Less chirping and snuggling against it.

This happened to us to a few weeks back, I keep several rice pad warmers around in the winter, rags, spare fabric or small towels sewn up with rice inside for sore muscles or cold feet. But the only way to warm them when the power is out is if you have a wood stove

Oh my gosh that was my biggest fear at one point when raising chicks. Maybe a fireplace nearby or you could put them by. Also fake or real candles covered with a glass bowl.

Also if you got some hand warmers that you shake, you can put them a little way under the shavings.

I bet it was scary, if that happened to us I don't know what would have happened because we have around 18 baby birds
