Hi, we have some turkey eggs in an incubator. They were TWO days from the expected hatching time when a tornado stuck our town (Arab, Alabama on April 27, 2011) and we lost power. The eggs were without heat for almost 24 hours. We were able to plug the incubator into a gasoline gernerator and proceed heating the eggs.

The eggs were expected to hatch on April 29; three days later, May 2 the eggs are still not hatched. Will they hatch or are the ruined?

It is depressing knowing that they were 2 days from hatching and now might be lost

i cant answer IF they will hatch..but...last month lost power..not sure how long cuz i was not home....chicks due to hatch they were in lock down...they were delayed by 3 days..out of 24 eggs only 9 hatched...very bad results for me. also each wkend i have incubator full.....the second bator was a week from hatching..almost everyone hatched = good results, but were also delayed by 3 days. and now the last bator results is not so good 50/50 so far, delayed by 3 days.... give them the few extra days they might be needing...good luck.

im up here in cleveland,TN. same tornado came here too!! found street signs from Ft Payne area!! My pheasant eggs went about 20 hours without power until I could find a generator. we had no power until yesterday!! My pheasant eggs are hatching now so I guess 20 hours didnt hurt much. They are about 2 days late hatching. good luck with yours!!

With larger fowl, hatching days can vary greatly.
I don't know about turkeys, but geese hatch on day 28-35 it varies depending on breed and individual chicks.

I'd suggest candling the eggs and listening to them to see if the fetuses are still alive.
My eggs hatched even when the 'bator spiked up to 110 degrees for a half an hour!
