Last night a driver hit a telephone pole and put the power out,..and it was in the 20's outside. We live in a raised house that's built to stay cool in the hot LA. summers,. so the house, and the incubator, cooled quickly. We put the incubator by the fire place,. but the temp kept dropping so DH & DD wrapped the eggs in a foil package and put them under the heater in the truck and hauled boody to my MIL's house 20 minutes away,. by the time they got the bator going and the eggs back in it was only 87 degrees in the bator and took about another 15 minutes to get it up to proper temp. After the power came back on 3 hours later,. they had to bring the eggs home the same way but at least they were very warm when they left and got here with the thermometer reading 95 and I had it up to temp in minutes. Hatch day is the 19th. this is the first time this has ever happened to us.
What is the coldest your eggs have gotten and still hatched?

i dont think there will be any problem, since the temperature didnt go down that far, and not for a very long time. Its day 19 already, so the chicks are already formed in the egg, i wouldnt be worried

We lost power here in Bush last week for several hours overnight on day 19 3/4...the bator got down to 86 degrees. Right now nearing the end of day 21, I have four chicks hatched, one zipping, and five more pipped. Worst case scenario....maybe it'll slow them down a few hours to a day. Don't give up hope till after day 25 or things start smelling funny

With the temperature only dropping that much and for that short period of time, you really should be fine.. The eggs/chicks can tolerate a dip in temperature much better than a bump... Best of luck on your hatch!!

Thanks,. I've had many hatches that had temp spikes,. and I never had problems with hatching,. but this was our first with low temps,. gives me a lot of respect for the broody!,..
So how low is too low anyway?
