PPBA Show in Stockton, CA in January?

Sigh. What a great show. Unfortunately, not a single large fowl Dominique to be found, but the little bantam pair were cute. Too bad the pullet REFUSED to hold still for a photo on both days!

We did get some good contacts, talked to a lot of really interesting folks and got to see some pretty birds and hear about others' projects that they are passionate about. It is especially wonderful to hear about rare or rare heritage birds making a comeback with dedicated breeders - the penciled rocks were lovely, as were many of the breeds I've never seen before in real life.

Great time, looking forward to Stevenson!

Unfortunately my purse was lost (and I guess now stolen - as it's not been turned in) at a subway on the way home, so I'm sitting in a hotel in Klamath Falls with no ID worried about all that

bummer.

Cheryl said: I'll take more pics this am and try to post the link if people are interested. I have some really fun shots of the two wellies camping out in Annaraven's trunk - now we are not talking a SUV trunk, we are talking about a regular car and the wellies were just eating, hanging out and of course pooing all over her car trunk - hysterical and really really pretty birds. lol

This must have been hysterical! Can't wait to see a photo!! And thanks to laurieks who delivered them to Anna for me! Woot-woot!

I was at ZAP in SF, but hope to be able to go to Stockton next year...

I have never had a sick bird, and the Dutch girls had their Marek's vaccine as day-olds, so here's hoping that all will be fine, Anna! Glad we could make this work. Dawn

on ppl who steal! I hope they get caught! (I had a card stolen, & the kids who had it ordered mail order stuff sent to their home, & called the psychic hot line

...they were caught fairly quickly)

Cheryl Bravo! Those are lovely girls & I look forward to seeing their progeny.

Now we can look forward to pics of baby Emus (And baby Luke!) My son gave me the biggest puppy eyes to buy a pair to hatch... his dad's answer was "sure you can get them... when you have your own land on which to keep them"

I love those ducks you got... the Seramas too! And it was great window shopping with you & Candy

Carrie (I don't see you here... prolly still unpacking all those lovely birds & huggable dog!) did the bantam Wellie breeder come back? Those would be a great addition!

I bought (for a friend I visited on the way home) two Silver Duckwing OEGB roos (oops, he only wanted one! & a Birchen modern game cockerel. I have the contact info on those breeders, the OE guys are outside of Vancouver, WA & the Modern breeder is close to Modesto, I think... Kim

... he would probably have a special price for a 5 year old

Some of the sale cages (R. Conway.... Richard I think... his daughter Rachel was the *ADGA youth rep last year) said "free pairs to 4H'ers". Modern GB's are supposed to be VERY good for youth & youth showmanship. Or did she mean the big Brazilian Asils?? That would be amazing to see... they look very prehistoric, & big, but are very gentle.

Anna & Dawn I am so sorry I didn't bring a big box for them to go in when they left the crate. I hope your carpet recovers.

Jordan it was good to see you again; thanks for talking with us about reptiles etc.

It was good to see everyone, & I look forward to next year

I tried to write who had what on the exhibitors list, but didn't get minorcas on it. Sorry.
I got the list because I was supposed to be an exhibitor, but found out (Friday) two of the birds I wanted to take were mycoplasma positive, which means all are considered exposed. Totally healthy in appearance. I sent blood to the lab just to check because we had it here last year. Some of the breeders said don't worry just give different antibiotics. The NPIP desk said to close the flock. I bought the birds that brought it from an NPIP certified breeder. NPIP only tests for Pullorum & Avian flu... a breeder told me when they found Flu in the show barn one year the ENTIRE barn of birds was destroyed. Myco testing is optional... the good news is that they can now test eggs... so I'm sending some and will be able to share hatching eggs if they are negative.
ETA: The vet said my car is safe... it is transmitted by droplet... so birds in their own box in the back of the car were not at risk.

Did you happen to write down who had Gold Laced Wyandottes or Gold Laced Cochins? I am looking for eggs from SQ stock.

Nope but I will ask... I don't remember seeing any in the show... but with 2500 birds... they might well have been there... oh, bantam or LF?

Night all

Hi friends, I had a great time at the show, and woohoo wont tomorrow be fun unpacking and getting the trailer re-established for grooming dogs and cats and not chickens.

Laurie, I showed admirable restraint, and did not come home with anything from the sales barns... although I sure admired them bantam wellies and dang I thought an emu would be fun... just couldnt see how my bantam could brood it...

Happy to say I sold everything I needed too. Wooohooo, sold every one of my cockerels, and two were bought by judges... which I thought was quite the compliment.

Cheryl, I am happy to read you found some people to offer suggestions with how to work with your girls to improve your SPPRs. Know there are others of us working on projects, so if you get frustrated and need uplifting or just a safe place to
barnie.gif
you can come to us. I meant to tell you them wheaton boys were sure adorable, but I do not need another variety!

I am thinking Fresno would be fun, and I could probably pick up the chicks that Karen (sewandgrow) agreed to hatch for me. Kim you and the grandchild thinking about Fresno???

If I didnt get to meet you, I hope we can do so before Stockton 2012!

Happy Hatching and best of luck with the new additions!

Don't know about that grandkid, but I'm thinking about it.

My new machanic got my car done in 5 hours, not 2 days like usually happens. I have good machanics but my car was a learn as you go project, so now she has a specialist and works GREAT! So I might make the trip. One of the older grand daughters was supposed to go with me and had to work, so this might be her chance to go.

BTW I had gotten bantam Wellies a while back, but I only kept one since she was the sweetest and the others crushed my little roo. But I do have eggs in the bator from some SQ birds, so I'll have little Wellies later on. Not sure how many I'll get and need to hold on to a few. If I can get these shipped eggs to hatch! Now if I could get a few of the LF I'll be happy.

I also need to take pics of my Pene cockerel. I had 2 and thought one was a pullet. NOPE. This one just was my better one and I needed space, so the other went to a 4 H er. Now I wish I still had him and I am looking for more pullets or hens.

I need to call the AM breeder we found and find out what she has for sale. I found other colors I like and trying to be good, but I WANT!!!! She's going to be selling her 1st place blue hen and I want her.

See, not just Marans....hehe

I'm also debating on having Karen hatch all these eggs out for me. One way or another they need to be set tomorrow. They weren't shipped, so my chances are better, but I'm thinking I might lay all the worry out on her. Poor baby. hehe.........She's getting rid of some roos, so might be meeting up tomorrow at the auction. Maybe our eggs will be hatchmates!

Wish there had been an Emu at least on display at the show. Makayla was upset that no momma was there with those eggs and that she couldn't see that big chicken.

So Carrie..........since JR is a wimp with these older girls, what ya got at home there girl. I think he needs some competition.LOL He was 3 that are groupies, but the other smack him around. Sad when your roo hides from a hen. ROFL
