PPBA Show in Stockton, CA in January?

I was really impressed with the Silver Phoenix! They were gorgeous.

I was surprised though how many of the people at the sales barn don't vaccinate. I even had one guy getting all anti-vax at me. Is it common for people to not vaccinate chickens they're going to sell or show?

Anna, many breeders do not vaccinate as a rule. They feel that they work their flocks to build up immunities to disease instead of vaccinating. That's not my philosophy and I will always vaccinate for Meraks and start them on medicated feed. That's just the way I'm doing it, but I think it's pretty controversial

Kim & Jordan you can come hide here

If we pool all our funds maybe we can start a BYC commune big enough that we don't see neighbors

With emu (or Cassowary?) run around the perimeter.
I'm sorry you had to be near that, & glad it's over for the time being.

Kim at Star; what you're hearing sounds similar to what I'm hearing/reading. I'm staying at staus quo for now, & reading all I can.

I've actually thought about a large piece of land and splitting sections with friends or family.

I'm going to be looking for "for sale" signs all the way to Dixon tomorrow.

Um, are you sure it wasn't an Easter Egger?

Nope, AM

They had lots of colors that are in the works.

I have an egg in the bator from the one that won 1st BV and she was a Golden Quail

Beautiful bird and some of those other colors are amazing.

I think pretty soon that a lot of the colors that people are lectured about as being EEs are going to be recognized.

Kim,

I am fresh out of Marans roos of all colors. Lordy, who thought I could ever say that!

I will have a couple of Wyandottes cockerels around March/April, but they have some growing to do before I make final selections on keepers vs goers.

I do not have any blue coppers. With the exception of a small flock of black coppers, I work with solid colors... blue, black, white. The blues I have came from Helen Byers of Texas and Dave Prather of KY; I have tried eggs from a few others, but the get have ended up with gold in their hackles and wings, and these birds have been culled out. Sort of frustrated with that, so in 2011, I am integrating some of the blues with my whites and blacks and see what happens. I just am not thrilled with the consistency in egg color and body type that I am getting out of the blues right now.

Are you going to Fresno?

As far as I know I am.

I'm also looking for more blue and black AMs. Maybe even a splash.

Tell me if I'm right.

BCM can go over blue copper?

What happens with color after that?

Can you breed whatever blues back to blues and blacks back to blacks and get the color of both parents or does it take a couple of generations?

Reason I was wondering is, maybe to egg color would darken using the BCM.

Does that work?
