prayer warriors (following Jesus Christ, everyone welcome)

I think this thread is a perfect place to post scriptures. Do you mind pointing out some verses? (this is for anyone, by the way)

Thanks for the insight!
Sure!

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body [a]and in your spirit, which are God’s."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV (I chose this version because I personally believe it's one of the easier ones for people to read and understand)
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Corinthians+6:19-20&version=NKJV

"And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God."
Ephesians 5:18-21
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+5:18-21&version=NKJV

"Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Galatians 5:19-21

Then there are passages like the following, where Paul speaks about drinking wine:
"No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities."
1 Timothy 5:23

This is why I said I believe it is okay to drink wine or alcoholic beverages AT THE MINIMUM, only during sickness or communion.

"Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may follow intoxicating drink;
Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!"
Isaiah 5:11

Hope this helps :).

God Bless you all!!

I like those songs!

I respectfully disagree with your mom. I don't think anyone should drink alcohol, outside of The Communion and possibly when you are sick.

You shouldn't be looking to a priest for answers on things like alcohol. Look to the Bible. It says not to get drunk. It says our bodies are the Temples of the Holy Spirit. All these scriptures should point to a conclusion that you should not drink alcohol just for the heck of it.
You all are forgetting that Jesus himself turned water into wine. I'm not saying for everyone to drink but I see no issue in having a glass or two if you want it. Only you know if you can handle it, if you can't or don't want to drink, then don't. Myself, I have never been drunk in my life. But I do drink if I want to.

As Blue said, it's playing with fire.
The Bible says rather to fill yourself with the Holy Spirit.

unfortunately my uncle is an alcoholic who created many problems. we were given a booklet about alcoholism by his doctor. I remember there were 4 grades of alcoholism. I don't remember details (it was about 30 years ago) but I do remember that people at the beginning can stand alcohol without getting drunk. that's the biggest problem that leads to alcoholism. people think that they are strong enough to cope with it. so I agree with the priest that 1 drink should always be a limit. the priest didn't say we should drink regularly. we were talking about situations when people are offered drinks, like weddings, parties, etc.

out priests studied 4 years at university, many of them have done master and doctorate. I always consult priests if I have any dilemma. there are so many people who unfortunately misinterpret bible. I have a cousin who has done minimum education. she is a good person, believer and she tried to read bible but understood nothing. there are many people like her. that's why we need priests to ask questions.

Oh, but I am. At risk. I will not put myself on Satan's turf, where he can gain an advantage over me.. As Jesus said, "it is written, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." To do so is not faith but presumption. ..

Did you ever hear the story of the wealthy man who wanted to hire a driver? He lived in a mansion at the top of a mountain, with a steep road to the bottom. Three men applied. He told the first, "Take me to the bottom as fast as you can, coming as close to the edge of the road as you dare." The candidate did so, roaring around the curves at top speed in a hair-raising manner. The rich man thanked him and sent him on his way. The second applicant, same thing. But the third man drove slowly and carefully, keeping the car a safe distance from the edge. He got the job. As a follower of Jesus, I don't want to see how close I can get to temptation without falling into sin. I want to stay as close to Jesus as possible. Had Eve stayed away from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, she would not have engaged in conversation with the devil. She would not have found herself with its fruit in her hand, and then in her mouth. We are told, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

I totally agree with you. btw, nice story.

there are very few people that have that much self control.

I admire people who can control themselves. drinking is always playing with fire but very few people win.

when I was at university I had a friend who's father used to be an alcoholic. after the therapy he limited himself to 1 beer. when someone insisted he should drink more he accused him of being his enemy. even his doctor didn't believe that an ex alcoholic could limit drinking. I have never heard about any person like him. btw, he was a believer.
