prayers for my horse ScarletUpdate: scarlet passed away this morning

I'm VERY worried about the swelling you said she had. Have you had a vet look at it or have you been "doctoring" it on your own? You have to treat the infection with antibiotics before it becomes a worse problem for her.

I had 2 horses, one lived to be 30 and the other lived to be 36 yrs. old and I still miss them.

That's wonderful!

My experience is that bad leg wounds will swell ALOT below the wound. My vet said to keep Gail's let wrapped from hoof to hock as sort of a support stocking. It seems that their body's response to injury is to send fluid to the area - to stiffen and immobilize the limb somewhat. I was constantly impressed how 'un-hurt' she seemed. If I had had a hole in my leg like that - EVERYONE would've know about it.

But Gail never even really limped.
Keep up the good work.

got good news on Scarlet tonight... looks like some good skin growth not seeing as much bone today... she is sporting hot pink zebra striped bandage today. she is looking spiffy and getting really spoiled . kids give her fresh carrots out of the garden during wound care.

thank you...I really did not need this to happen this week...not that i ever needed this to happen. on top of this they are checking my 15 year old daughter for thyroid cancer on thursday... so its been a really crappy week for me and my family.. scarlet is in my heart and will always be there
