Prayers & good thoughts for my roo Thor please

Yeah, I brought him in tonight and gave both legs a good lookover, but couldn't find anything abnormal. After his checkup he got his favorite - a helping of cat food all to himself, of course. He even knows what cabinet the bag of cat food is kept in.

I'll debate tonight whether to keep him in tomorrow or not. I have a feeling he would hurt himself if I kept him the coop and let his girls out without him.

They're so much more resilient than we often think - I bet he'll be okay after a while.

But I know how much you love Thor, and worry about him. I'd be just sick if something happened to my Carl! (Heck, I get all wound up when any of my chickens are injured or ill!)

could you keep all of them in? not sure about your set up- i have been cutting back on my guys roaming time- but you are right- it would be too stressful on him to let them out and not him- thats funny about the catfood- just dry cat food?

Hope he gets better soon! He sure is a good looking roo!

When mine were just starting to use the roosts, one of the hens injured a leg jumping off the roost in the morning. She was hobbling around on it when I found her. I let her out with them in the run during the day, but at night, I put her in the corner of the coop in a cat carrier, so she wouldn't re-injure the leg or make it worse trying to get down from the high roost. They have a ladder they use to get up, but they just fly down. After about a week of that, she was fine and you can't even tell now that she was hurt.

Yep, he love dry cat food. He never gets any otherwise, because when I offer it to the whole flock Thor always lets the girls have it all. He's so funny to watch it eat too. He take a couple bites from my open hand, wipe his beak on my sleeve, take a couple more bites, wipe....

I've isolated a hen before that sprained her leg jumping down, but Thor would likely lose his mind. He loves his girls.

I enjoy reading about Thor, I'm a fan. I hope he feels better soon, we're sending him good healing vibes and energy. Get better Thor.

He's such a sweet Roo. I think he'll be a great father figure to any of your younger cockerels too.

Last winter one of my BO hens developed a limp suddenly. I soaked her foot and leg in warm water and epsom salts for 10 minutes a day for 4 days. Not sure if it was a strain, sprain or something else but it cleared up by day 5. Other than the 10 minute 'hen spa' she was able to stay with her flock mates. Hope Thor mends soon, he is a beautiful roo!
