Pre-laying noises?

My 4 Buff Orpingtons are approaching laying age and I’m noticing more noisiness, especially when confined to the run. It’s not clucking and it’s not their alarm call. Is this expected for birds about to lay?

Possibly. they make a variety of noises.

They can get pretty darn noisy when approaching point of lay.
Usually it's the 'egg song' which is very similar to an alarm call.
