Precious..the blind Barred Rock hen

Yup you can't blame her for being who she is. Like keeping a roo and getting mad when he is constantly chasing the girls. It's what a roo does. My Micro roo is doing well with my crippled Brahma Girl Momba they have figured out how to use the roost frame together for warmth. and seem to be pretty happy. Can't wait till I can get em out to get some fresh air and sun on their feathers. All my girls say they a re sick of this white shtuff.

Caught Precious in the nest today, and soon after, her egg. Hers are always narrow and pointy, compared to the others. The picture is her egg from yesterday (left) and today (right).

Wow…it’s been awhile since I last posted about Precious! She’s still doing great. She is currently going through her 18 month molt. She’s a hot mess, and has been sleeping in a nesting box for the past week, instead of roosting with the others. Seems that she prefers the cozy confines of the box, and no one bothers her while she is in there. She’s clearly uncomfortabl, but she’s well on her way to having a fully refreshed winter coat.

She still responds to me calling her name, which is always cute. She still wanders around pecking at the air, and accidentally pecking the other hens at the feeder. She‘s still not the bottom hen, which I believe is due to her blindly staring down higher pecking order hens, just because she can’t see them. They seem to allow it, as though they understand.

Here she is in her molting glory! I’ll post again when she is done with molt, and showing her beautiful new coat.
