No, I just used what was left of Sam...figured if they were after chicken to begin with, that'd be more likely to lure them back...kept the trap set after the opposum, but nothing yet...maybe if nothing in another night, I'll add some PB...

COON IN A BAG
Sent in by Charlie Barrett

~ 1 cleaned raccoon
~ 8 medium Irish(red) potatoes, peeled and cubed
~ 3 lb bag baby carrots
~ 2 large onions, sliced into 1/2" slices
~ 4 bell peppers, diced
~ 4 medium turnips, quartered
~ 1 can cream of mushroom soup
~ 1 & 1/2 cups water
~ 2 oz Morton's Nature's Seasoning
~ 1 large baking bag, turkey size
~ electric roasting oven with liner

Place coon in the baking bag. Add the potatoes, carrots, onions, peppers and turnips.
Mix the soup and water together in a bowl. Add to bag.
Sprinkle on the Morton's seasoning as evenly as possible.
Seal bag.
Put 1 gallon of water in the roaster to make a water bath.
Place the bag in the liner and place in roaster.
Cook for 6 - 8 hours at 250 degrees.
Serve and enjoy.

* You can cook this in the oven if you don't have a roaster. Adjust cooking time as needed.

I love how this has suddenly become a redneck recipe thread!! Haa haa!! My son DID ask if we could eat the oppossum though!!! LOL

First off, sorry about your bird.

If a coon killed your bird, it will be back - and it may bring friends. Make sure to keep the trap up for the next week or so.

Another bait to try is a molasses dough ball. Use bread and mix with molasses to make a thick ball. You can then smash it in the trap and it is harder for them to grab and run. you could also mix an egg in the dough to give it a little more flavor.

A neighbor of mine swears by this method and used to catch 2 coons per trap religiously.

Good Luck
