Predator killed all but one

I have lost many chickens to foxes but the issue is that once they know your flock is there they will try and try again to get to them
Were they free ranging? Or in a run?
They were free ranging when they were attacked. Our run and coop are pretty secure.

It my fault. I let them out in the morning and forgot to lock them up before I took the kids to storytime. We came home to the results. I will definitely be more careful.

I’m so sorry for your loss, but thrilled you found some new friends for your BO! Take care with integration as far as health and not only hoping they get along. They can get each other sick. Are you going to ingegrate right away? If so, I highly recommend you have Corid on hand in case they are carrying different strains of coccidia. Then treat at the first hint of coccidiosis. I hope the integration goes well!

In case nobody has mentioned it, I just looked at your pic of your new babies (congratulations!) and saw chicken wire in the shot.

Chicken wire is good for divider walls within your coop or run but should never be used as external fencing unless you incorporate it with another type of more secure fencing--welded wire, chain link or hardware cloth.

Many predators can rip through chicken wire. It is not a predator proof fencing. A determined predator can rip through anything. Example: We have an Australian Cattle dog that used to tear through chain link fence and woven wire fence when he took a notion to escape the yard.

If you are going to keep the chicken wire, I highly suggest that you add hardware cloth over it along with a hot wire system.

Fox can tear through light weight fence and can climb fence also.
